Digiday:Social – Insights Into Social Media Marketing

Today, Squeaky’s Marketing Director, Jacob Ramos, attended Digiday:Social, an event showcasing successful strategies and insights on how to leverage social media within your overall marketing efforts. As this was a high-level event much of the content was meant to provide baseline education and resources to brand marketers and agency executives who are looking to take the next step in integrating specific social media platforms and communication strategies.

Charlene Li, the Founder of Altimeter Group, was the first presenter of the morning giving a keynote which focused on open and transparent leadership through the new social order. While her methods were unique at the core her message was something that has been central to any brand and it’s c-suites looking to integrate social media into their organization.

- Align your openness strategy with your unique goals

- Prepare a proper communication strategy for engaging consumers in advance

- Understand your brand’s value of each consumer

- Prepare to fail

And, above all focus on the relationships not the technology.

While we were only able to stay for the morning sessions left with one key point we found continues to resonate among social media marketing. Ready for this… no matter how many social media marketing events and conferences you attend  there will NOT be a pot of marketing gold waiting for you at the end. There is NO silver bullet. At the end of the day as a brand you have to make sure you have the proper internal team or the agency partners around you that can align your realistic goals with the appropriate platforms whether that be Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Digg, Reddit, etc. If social media is indeed the next step in marketing then it is important to hire people that are educated and genuinely interested in the space because at the end of the day social media is based on garnering relationships, and you can’t fake authenticity.

Chippy Goes In For Surgery

Our beloved mascot, Chippy had an unfortunate accident. A tough little dog, he has had his share of brushes with death in the last week while chasing the Squeaky car around the office he was run over and smashed to kibbles and bits. In an attempt to put him back together a trigger happy glue gunner went buck-wild and slightly over did it.

We knew we were going to need some major reconstructive surgery so we put out a Craigslist ad for the best of the best ceramicist. After many viable candidates and hours of surgical reconstruction by the talented Dr. Lisa, Chippy is back and better than ever. Sporting a new paint job and shiny new collar, Chippy has returned to work here at Squeaky, greeting all of our guests and making the rest of us smile.

From all of us here at the Squeaky loft we’d like to say, “Welcome Back Chippy!” and would especially like to thank Dr. Lisa for her hard work and dedication in reviving our much-loved mascot.

Fashion’s Night Out 2010: Where To Be Seen

fashions-night-out1

Fashion’s Night Out 2010 hits the streets of New York City tonight and we at Squeaky are like kids in a candy shop. But, with so many retailers participating it can be overwhelming to decide where to go. Below is our list of places for the best in fashion, food, and ambience.

Opening Ceremony – Hosted at the ACE hotel (one of Squeaky’s favorite hotel lounges), Opening Ceremony will feature a French flea market. Brands such as Alexander Wang and Band of Outsiders will have their own booths with exclusive items and designers will be present to meet fans.

YSL – YSL will be unveiling their exclusive line for Polyvore. The reason this is especially interesting for Squeaky is the combination of high-end fashion paired with social media. This is the first time Polyvore has collaborated with brands. Starting at the event YSL and Polyvore are challenging users to create the best YSL “set” and the winner will receive a YSL bag.

Barney’s – This will be chaotic but if you can muster up the strength to deal with massive crowds you could be rubbing shoulders with the likes of the Olsen twins, Daphne Guiness, Simon Doonan, etc. A ping-pong tournament and karaoke will also be among the list of fun activities to participate in.

Rag & Bone – The Mercer Street Retailer will be hosting a block party featuring delicious food from BLT Burger and Van Leeuwan ice cream. In addition, there will be special guest appearances by Revlon (Squeaky client) Ambassador’s Gucci Westman and Halle Berry.
