The Creativity and Technology Conference (CaT), hosted by AdAge, took place in New York last Friday, with several Squeaky members in attendance. The Conference was a resounding success, as many of the attendees have indicated, and delivered inspiration to creative thinkers across several disciplines. So what exactly made this conference so good? The generally down-to-earth atmosphere, intellectually curious audience and a focus on sharing ideas vs. selling them were all contributing factors.

Shopping Goes Social, Stats & Facts
Squeaky has built its reputation on producing great work for consumer-facing businesses like Revlon and Lexus. But, before we can even get to the design and development of a web presence for our clients it’s important to understand the change in consumer behavior happening throughout the digital landscape. As it stands right now, data points to social media playing an important expanded role when it comes to consumer shopping. We gathered a multitude of stats and facts to create a presentation highlighting how social media ties into online consumer shopping and the platforms brands have an opportunity.
The web presents huge opportunities for us to save money and nobody goes with the first deal they find. We bargain hunt; we ask friends and family; we check out reviews; we do a thorough job of shopping around so that we can be certain we are buying a quality product for the best price. The most convenient way to accomplish all of this is via social media.
The majority of time spent on the web is spent on social media (you probably have Facebook or Twitter open in a tab right now). But regardless of the platform you use, people love to discuss brands or products they like and dislike while the rest of us tend to listen and take the opinions of others into consideration before we make purchases. This is how social media affects how we shop online.
Check out the presentation above and tell us what you think.

The Web and Dating
We are living in the digital age. We buy our movie tickets on Fandango, make reservations at our favorite restaurant on OpenTable and even use the web to find that special someone with whom we can share these experiences with.
People have been using the web for dating since the days when you had to connect to AOL via a screaming 56k modem only to find yourself immersed in creep-filled chat rooms, with strangers prompting you with the all too famous “A/S/L?”. Over the years however, people have become more comfortable with the idea of online dating and are doing it more than ever (dating that is).
Sure you can use your favorite social media outlet to find someone who interests you, but why bother when there are a ton of sites out there that find potential matches for you. Sites like OKCupid.com provide users with a free to use service where they can sign up, create profiles and start browsing local singles. You answer a series of questions and based on your answers you are matched up with other singles.
There are also premium dating sites that users pay to access. Sites like Match.com (which recently bought OKCupid) or eharmony.com essentially match you up with singles that fit various criteria. Then there are sites like Cheekd.com which is taking a new approach.
Cheekd.com is bridging the gap between the web and real life encounters. They offer their members cards which can be handed out should you happen to meet someone who has sparked your interest. Card recipients can then access the member’s profile by entering the code found on the card. With this daring new tactic, Cheek’d is empowering their users with a sense of mystery which in turn may intrigue the recipients of these cards even more and provoke connections.
We are all looking for that special someone and in this day and age the web is making finding him or her a lot easier. At first it seemed as though people were uncomfortable with meeting strangers online but gradually it has grown to be much more socially acceptable and we are curious to see how many people are using online dating sites 10 years from now, and what kind of innovative ideas they will implement to stir things up a bit.

Creative Twitter Campaigns
Now boasting over 175 million registered users, Twitter is a powerhouse when it comes to social media. Although very simple and basic you can find companies doing some really cool things with it.
Nike, the creator behind the US Men’s Soccer Team jerseys recently launched a campaign prompting its fans on Twitter to come up with a slogan to embroider onto the sleeve. There were over 6,000 submissions and one was chosen. “Indivisible” emerged as the winning slogan.
