Culture Fuels Our Innovation

As Ad Age’s 2010 Best Agency Culture Award Winner, culture is something we keep dear to our heart. But what exactly does an agency’s “culture” mean? For us it means a combination of environment, attitude and diversity.

El Museo del Barrio, a Center for Latin Culture

Looking for a dose of culture in your life? Take a trip to El Museo del Barrio, New York’s leading Latino cultural institution focusing on sharing the artistic landscape of Latino, Caribbean and Latin American Culture.

Some of their work includes pre-Columbian Taíno artifacts, traditional arts, twentieth-century drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations, as well as prints, photography, documentary films, and video.

We came across their site and were pretty excited about all the events and exhibits that they had to offer. You can even head over for  WEPA Wednesdays, a weekly gathering every Wednesday through June from 6pm to 9pm.  They extend gallery hours, provide music from an in-house DJ and have drink specials from El Café (you can check out the menu here).

Through May 29th, 2011 El Museo will be featuring the work of Luis Camnitzer. A conceptual artist—born in Germany and raised in Uruguay—he currently resides in New York and is an artist, an educator, a critic and a theorist. His artwork breaks down limitations and questions that define the center versus the periphery.

Their site is very user-friendly and provides a lot more information on all of their events. Check it out and plan a trip, kids 12 and under are always free and students get in for just $5.

Free Friday: MoMA

moma

It’s a beautiful day in NYC and we can’t think of a better way to transition into our Friday night than by taking in some art and culture. As part of Free Fridays we are going to let you in on a little secret: Between 4pm and 8pm, admission to the Museum of Modern Art is FREE! There’s no catch either, all galleries, exhibitions and films are accessible with your Free Friday Night Pass. Don’t forget to bring the kids too! Children under 16 are always free at the MoMA.

We’d also advise showing up early because when you say, ‘Free’ in New York City people tend to swarm. Not only are we hooking you up with this valuable tip but we’d also like to let you know that you can explore the exhibits of the MoMA as well as other museums via The Google Art Project. This is a really cool digital way to view your favorite works.

If you’re like us and love everything digital, try out the free mobile apps available for your Android, iPhone, or iPad devices. They too let you explore the museum digitally, browse works, and even plan a trip. We here at Squeaky wish you a happy, restful and culture-filled weekend. Cheers!
