Today, Squeaky’s Marketing Director, Jacob Ramos, attended Digiday:Social, an event showcasing successful strategies and insights on how to leverage social media within your overall marketing efforts. As this was a high-level event much of the content was meant to provide baseline education and resources to brand marketers and agency executives who are looking to take the next step in integrating specific social media platforms and communication strategies.
Charlene Li, the Founder of Altimeter Group, was the first presenter of the morning giving a keynote which focused on open and transparent leadership through the new social order. While her methods were unique at the core her message was something that has been central to any brand and it’s c-suites looking to integrate social media into their organization.
- Align your openness strategy with your unique goals
- Prepare a proper communication strategy for engaging consumers in advance
- Understand your brand’s value of each consumer
- Prepare to fail
And, above all focus on the relationships not the technology.
While we were only able to stay for the morning sessions left with one key point we found continues to resonate among social media marketing. Ready for this… no matter how many social media marketing events and conferences you attend there will NOT be a pot of marketing gold waiting for you at the end. There is NO silver bullet. At the end of the day as a brand you have to make sure you have the proper internal team or the agency partners around you that can align your realistic goals with the appropriate platforms whether that be Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Digg, Reddit, etc. If social media is indeed the next step in marketing then it is important to hire people that are educated and genuinely interested in the space because at the end of the day social media is based on garnering relationships, and you can’t fake authenticity.
