Culture Fuels Our Innovation

As Ad Age’s 2010 Best Agency Culture Award Winner, culture is something we keep dear to our heart. But what exactly does an agency’s “culture” mean? For us it means a combination of environment, attitude and diversity.

Multicultural Marketing 101 at NYU

NYU

As an interactive agency that markets to an array of different audiences for our clients, we understand the importance of multicultural marketing.

So when we discovered NYU was offering a course on Multicultural Marketing we were psyched to find out that others also saw its importance. The course is entitled, ‘Ethnic Marketing: How to Target the Multicultural Consumer’ and will be offered over the course of a two-day period (April 29-30) from 9am-5pm. The class will feature an overview of multicultural marketing trends with discussion on niche markets (Hispanics, African-American, Asian-American etc.) as well as ways to reach these groups using traditional and innovative methods.

Students will be in for a treat since the person teaching the course is also the President of Multicultural Marketing Resources Inc.—a New York City based public relations and marketing firm. Plus there will undoubtedly be a ton of guest speakers sharing their insight and experience with multicultural marketing in their respective industries. So if you’re a continuing education student, completing a marketing certificate or an NYU student with interest in marketing, you should check out this course.

Hispanics and Social Media

As a multicultural, minority-owned company, we at Squeaky pride ourselves on our Hispanic roots. This is why we were glad to discover that from 2009-2010, Hispanics enjoyed a 9% growth in terms of online presence. There are now 30 million Hispanics online which accounts for 13% of total online users and this is predicted to have a 32% growth by 2014 (39M Hispanics online!). Due to the huge online presence it is no surprise that Hispanics are also dominating social media (48% have a social network profile).

The cool part is the fact that most of them are native-born and not only hold true to their foreign roots but acknowledge and incorporate their American heritage as well. A perfect example of this is a blog we stumbled upon called, SpanglishBaby.com. It’s essentially a resource for parents raising bilingual/bi-cultural children and includes everything from informative posts about bilingualism to traditional foods and recipes. We also like how there are examples of Spanglish (a mix of Spanish and English) embedded within the blog such as, How to Bake Traditional Pan de Muerto. We’d like to give props to SpanglishBaby as well as the many others out there for making a huge splash on the web for the Hispanic community.
