Looking for a dose of culture in your life? Take a trip to El Museo del Barrio, New York’s leading Latino cultural institution focusing on sharing the artistic landscape of Latino, Caribbean and Latin American Culture.
Some of their work includes pre-Columbian Taíno artifacts, traditional arts, twentieth-century drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations, as well as prints, photography, documentary films, and video.
We came across their site and were pretty excited about all the events and exhibits that they had to offer. You can even head over for WEPA Wednesdays, a weekly gathering every Wednesday through June from 6pm to 9pm. They extend gallery hours, provide music from an in-house DJ and have drink specials from El Café (you can check out the menu here).
Through May 29th, 2011 El Museo will be featuring the work of Luis Camnitzer. A conceptual artist—born in Germany and raised in Uruguay—he currently resides in New York and is an artist, an educator, a critic and a theorist. His artwork breaks down limitations and questions that define the center versus the periphery.
Their site is very user-friendly and provides a lot more information on all of their events. Check it out and plan a trip, kids 12 and under are always free and students get in for just $5.
NetParty is an organization that throws NYC business and social networking events for young adults. On Tuesday night Squeaky attended a NetParty event at the Hudson Terrace. The rooftop venue was packed with 300 young professionals from different industries all looking to make valuable connections. And, as the booze started to flow mingling picked up and business cards were being handed out left and right. It’s no secret that networking is an important part of any successful business and for Squeaky it’s no different. A new contact you meet today could potentially be a new client the next week.

On the first Tuesday of each month tech start ups demo their services to the New York’s tech community. Typically, resides at FIT.
The Brooklyn Future MeetUp
Based around the discussion of what the world might look like in +30 years. Specifically, the group looks at trends and technology that are emerging today that will effects the coming future.
First Wednesday Cocktail Club (Facebook Group)
On the first Wednesday of every month friends and industry gather to network at Union Bar across from the W Hotel in Union Square. It started small with seven people and has organically grown to a loyal following. One rule: Try to keep shop talk to a minimal!
